Scope note
Microphones that respond to the air velocity rather than the air pressure of sound waves. This is accomplished via a ribbon of corrugated aluminum held between two magnets. Ribbon microphones were used extensively in radio and television broadcasting during the mid-20th century due to their broad dynamic range.
